The my freedom of Information Act campaign which was launched on the 20th of July by Tag a Life International and other partners has been widely accepted in all media platforms and is in full drive, including on radio .
One of Zimbabwe’s leading radio stations, Radio Zimbabwe popularly known as radio 2 endorsed the Act and urged women, girls, journalists and citizens to fully understand what the Act entails and use it to their advantage.
Speaking to Radio Zimbabwe’s Idah Mabuwana, the founding director of Tag a Life International which is spearheading the campaign, Nyari Mashayamombe said it is everyone’s right to request information from both private and public entities within the country.
“We urge everyone to understand this Act, especially vulnerable groups within society as well as those that feel voiceless “, she said.
She also emphasized how devolution has taken a great role in making access to information for citizens easier and faster as people no longer need to travel to big cities or offices to get information they need.
“Information is now accessible in every town as well as every office in your community thereby making it easier for everyone to access it nearer to them without inconvenience”.
The Freedom of Information Act came into law in June 2020,replacing the draconian AIPPA law which saw many journalists beaten, assaulted and incarcerated for publishing news that was deemed ‘private’.
