The Zimbabwe Republic Police have been challenged to rapidly respond to distress calls made by security detail and to do a thorough job of searching all cars at roadblocks.
At a Security Association of Zimbabwe(SAZ) breakfast meeting that was held yesterday at Cresta Lodge, the government, police, security players, consumers and key stakeholders came together to find ways to curb the rampant problem of armed robberies in the country.
Speaking to identities Media, Catherine from Crush Security said the security sector is let down by the slow response of the police for the most part.
“We can only do so much because when a guard is attacked, they call the police and that immediate response from them is what is lacking”,she said.
The founder and MD of DDNS Security Operations Ltd, Dr Divine Ndhlukula said there is also an urgent need to adopt technology and modern Acts to combat these crimes.
”Our customers need to adopt technological tools like CCTV and alarms and not only rely on one guard who can easily be overpowered by 15 armed robbers. When something goes wrong one can easily click the alarm button, it goes off and there is rapid response”, she said.
“We also need to revamp the security act that was promulgated decades ago because crime then and crime now is no longer the same, criminals are getting smarter so we definitely need a current Act.”
The meeting also highlighted how these crimes are being committed by knowledgeable people who have inside information on the ins and outs of security out of greed to further fatten their pockets.
