The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since released the name of the female police officer who was run over by a Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) bus on Thursday morning at a roadblock.
The female police officeridentified as Constable Parity Makaitei Karimazondo was stationed at ZRP Bulawayo Traffic West.
Constable Karimazondo was with her colleagues manning a roadblock along Khami Road flyover in Bulawayo when the tragic incident happened.
According to the police report, Karimazondo tried to cross the road when the bus hit her and dragged her for about 30 metres, and broke her into pieces.
A witness who was also privy to the incident said;
“There was a roadblock at which police officers were mainly stopping vehicles heading towards town.
“This police officer was crossing the road on the outbound lanes. I’m not sure if she misjudged the speed of the bus or the bus driver didn’t react in time or had some mechanical issue.
“She was dragged for about 30 meters. There’s a trail of blood stains and some scraps of flesh on the road.”
She died on the spot.
Police Commissioner-General Godwin Tandabantu Matanga has since conveyed his condolences to the Karimazondo family.
Following her death, the Zimbabwe Republic Police issued a press statement explaining the circumstances of her death.
