United Kingdom-based urban grooves artiste Daniel Mazhandu popularily known as Decibel is set to perform at a homecoming gig to be held in his hometown of Masvingo on the 3rd of December.
Decibel topped Zimbabwean music charts with the hits Chido ,Nakai and Madhara in the 2000’s but he had started performing as early as in high school and even went on to win a few prices.
Much to a lot of his fan’s surprise,Decibel actually graduated from the University of Zimbabwe in 2002 with a degree in biochemistry and he also studied sound engineering which he finished in 2013.
After finishing his degree he was signed by Galaxy records under the wing of Delani Makhalima. It is here that Decibel recorded his debut hit, Nakai. He later recorded Chido which also did extremely well.
The ‘Urban groove’ star released his first full album titled ‘What kind of world’ in 2004 which went on to be the best selling album at Country Boy records where it was produced.
The urban groove pioneer has expressed his preference for quality over quantity and said he will not produce additional material in a short period of time.
“High quantity, low quality and no longevity. That is not my kind of scene. I did not release a lot back then, first I released two songs in 2002, then 10 songs in 2004. I prefer quality over quantity”.
With Nakai and Chido hitting number 1 and 5 in the top 100 back then, very few can contradict this assertion. His homecoming gig is certainly anticipated and will take his fans on an urban groove trip they surely miss.
