IM: Tell us about yourself.

NCE: My name is Mr. Nnabuife Chinedu Ezeabasili. I am 39 years old, married to 1 wife and the principal partner of Circatrova Integrated Services, an agribusiness development and consultancy firm. I studied English Language from the famous Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria – Nigeria and worked briefly (5 years) with National Teachers Institute (NTI) Kaduna – Nigeria where I left in 2017 as Head of Entrepreneurship Unit to focus on full time farming and rural development using cooperative and cluster-based farming. In 2018, I established Atyap Multipurpose Cooperative Union in Zango Kataf Local Government of Kaduna State which I nurtured from 8 members at inception to 1,000plus membership under 4years. The Union grows cereals like rice, maize and soybeans.

Currently I am working on community developmental cluster farming in partnership with Bank of Agriculture. I also consult for some organizations like Homebelt Ginger Farmers Association of Nigeria, Sylceza Investment Limited and Anama Global Limited. I want to be remembered as someone who proved to rural farmers that they can be rich from farming.

IM: What makes you wake up in the morning?

NCE: I grew up in a town called Achina in Anambra state of Nigeria. My father was a well-known farmer yet, we were always in need of money. We had food that can sustain us but there was no money to pay for school fees, clothes or even medication when someone was sick.I vowed that I will find a way to make sure my father becomes a very rich farmer. Unfortunately, he is no longer alive so by working with rural farmers, I fulfil my vow.My motivation is to make sure that every rural farmer achieves economic of scale.

IM: What does being part of the ‘Top 10 Finalists in the Donors for Africa’s Social Innovators Bootcamp’ mean to you?

NCE: Being among Donors for Africa SIB top 10 still sounds like a dream. I registered for the course without expecting any good outcome. Coupled with preparing for farming season it was hectic for me. Yet here I am. I don’t think I was among the most serious or even smart yet I am among the top 10. This has shown me that people are listening, paying attention and are identifying with our problem. I believe being among the top 10 is an opportunity to get investors interested in the plight of rural farmers.

IM: What do you see in the near future after this?

NCE: What I want in the near future is to be able to secure machineries ranging from tractors, harvesters, threshers, dryers, food processors, etc. to enable rural farmers to maximize their lands. I also see opportunities for collaboration and partnerships.

IM : What are your parting words or advice for the next class and Africa at large?

NCE: My advice to the incoming cohort is to pay attention in every course, rewatch the recordings many times. Follow up on every activity, network and submit assignments on time. Also, they should be ready to unlearn some of the philosophies they are working with. This will help them tremendously.
