The Zimbabwe Republic Police ( ZRP) yesterday blocked Zimbabwe Hospital Association leader Dr Peter Magombeyi from leaving the medical facility for South Africa to access special medical care in defiance of a High Court order issued today by Justice Happias Zhou.
This was revealed by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) through its Twitter handle.
Dr Magombeya was abducted from his Budiriro home and kept in situ for about five days last week and was eventually dumped in Nyabira. A statement by ZLHR read:
In violation of the Constitution, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has prevented Dr Peter Magombeyi from leaving Zimbabwe to seek further urgent medical treatment, forcing the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to file an urgent application at court.
Dr Magombeyi reported case(s) to police such as threats he faced in August 2019 before he was abducted, disappeared and he also reported his abduction on 19 Sept after he was dumped at Nyabira. The Police questioned him for several hours about his whereabouts on 19 September.
He was released and sought medical attention. Now the Police has prevented him from leaving the country to seek further specialized treatment.
“He was released and sought medical attention. Now police has prevented him from leaving the country to seek further specialized treatment. Although he is a complainant in cases he reported it is not clear why his rights are being restricted by police.”, said the statement.

High Court Judge Happias Zhou early Tuesday ruled that police and those acting on their orders should not interfere with Magombeyi’s bid to leave the country for treatment in South Africa.
His local doctors argue that he needs special treatment includingneurocognitive and physiological dysfunction.
The doctors claim that Magombeyi may never practice as a medical practioner if he does not get urgent attention which is not available in Zimbabwe.
