Vice President Kembo Mohadi is challenging his ex-wife Tambudzani Bhudagi’s US$13 000 post-divorce spousal maintenance demand, arguing that the 67-year-old senator no longer has dependent children to support.
The matter is set for hearing before High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba.
Mohadi had been dragged to court by his wife, Tambudzani, who is demanding $13 394 per month in spousal maintenance.
The two went seperate following the allegations of adultery which are still before the courts. Through her lawyers, Messrs Scanlen and Holderness, Tambudzani, who is also a Beitbridge Senator, filed a divorce application and the matter was heard before the courts.
Vice President has been granted a divorce from ex-wife Tambudzani Bhudagi Mohadi (nee Muleya)’s by the High Court.
VP Mohadi approached the court back in 2017 seeking nullification of the couple’s divorce, claiming their marriage had irretrievably broken down.
The divorce battle was filled with drama and a lot of hard feelings with VP Mohadi approaching the Civil Court seeking a protection order against his ex-wife at some point. court battle. Mohadi was accusing his ex-wife of being the aggressor, also claiming she has been interfering with his farming activities.
“On April 1, 2019, the respondent went to my farm Lot 1 of 10 Farm, Jompembe Beitbridge Umzinganwe Estate which is a property which was awarded to me. She started giving my workers orders different from what I had given them. Meanwhile, she is dictating how business should be conducted at the farm,” he said.
Mohadi also accused Muleya of visiting his workplace in Harare, and later his residence where he now stays with his new wife, Juliet Mutavhatsindi, to cause commotion and chaos. She was restrained by security agents manning the two places.
Tambudzani once sued Mohadi’s mistress Juliet Mutavatsindi for $1,5 million for adultery damages.
Tambudzani said while she was living with Mohadi before separating in 1999, the couple purchased various businesses which are now under her husband’s control. As a result she is now surviving on a minimal allowance from her position as a senator.
Tambudzani said it was just and equitable for her to be awarded the sum of $13 394 per month as maintenance, which would enable her to enjoy and maintain a standard of living reasonably comparable to the standard of living she used to enjoy while living with Mohadi.
She also wants Mohadi to pay her legal costs to enable her to prosecute the pending divorce proceedings. Last month, Tambudzani petitioned the High Court seeking $1,5 million adultery damages from Mohadi’s alleged current girlfriend, Juliet Mutavhatsindi, arguing she was still the VP’s legal spouse.
