President Mnangagwa Declares Day’s of Mourning Mugabe

Zimbabwe former president who died yesterday in the early hours of the morning and was declared a national hero by the President Emmerson Mnangangwa will be mourned by the nation till he is buried.

President Mnangagwa, during his address at state house late Friday declared days of mourning for Zimbabweans until the former president is buried. Mugabe is likely to be buried at the national heroes acre despite reports that at some point, he refused to be buried there after his removal from office.

Mugabe died at the age of 95. He died after sometime on life support at a hospital in Singapore. His remains are expected in a few days for burial.

President Mnangagwa cut his South Africa trip short to as soon as the news is the passing of the former president reached him. He called the former president an icon of liberation. In his tweeter post early Friday morning, President Mnangagwa wrote:

 “It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe, Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace”.
