First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa yesterday launched the 2024/25 Pfumvudza4She Programme in Kaitano, drawing a large crowd of enthusiastic attendees. This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower women in agriculture across Zimbabwe.
During the event, the First Lady unveiled a pioneering nutrition garden equipped with a solar-powered borehole and water tanks, aimed at supporting the local community amid the region’s extreme heat. Her presence highlighted a commitment to inclusivity and development for all.
Dr. Mnangagwa engaged in an interactive session with community members, emphasizing the importance of hard work, respect, and adherence to traditional values. She honored liberation war veterans who have excelled in sustainable farming, presenting them with medals in recognition of their contributions.
Addressing the community, the First Lady expressed concern over the environmental impact of deforestation and urged residents to plant trees. She joined women in practical farming activities, demonstrating her hands-on approach and dedication to the cause.
The Pfumvudza strategy, which promotes climate-resilient farming, was highlighted as a means to improve food security and crop yields. Dr. Mnangagwa distributed traditional grains, fertilizers, and other resources to community members, urging them to make productive use of these inputs.
“I am here to support women who bear the burdens of their families,” she stated, encouraging collaboration between men and women in farming efforts. She underscored that while the program is called Agric4She, it is inclusive and encourages joint participation.
Community members expressed gratitude for the initiative. One participant, Mrs. Naome Sande, noted how the Pfumvudza4She Programme helps families secure their children’s education despite low rainfall in the area.
Minister of State for Mashonaland Central, Christopher Magomo, praised the First Lady’s commitment to empowering women and improving livelihoods. He highlighted the programme’s success in promoting women’s participation in various agricultural sectors.
“This momentous occasion celebrates the vital contributions of women to food security and community well-being,” he remarked, thanking Dr. Mnangagwa for her unwavering support and visionary leadership.
The event marked a significant step towards enhancing agricultural practices and empowering women in the region, ensuring that no one is left behind in the quest for sustainable development.
