Yesterday, First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa made a heartfelt visit to the maternity wing of Masvingo Provincial Hospital, donating baby preparation kits to seven mothers who welcomed their newborns on a special day—President Mnangagwa’s 82nd birthday.
The First Lady surprised the mothers with baby layettes, including outfits for four girls and three boys born on September 15. Her visit, an impromptu detour from the Munhumutapa Day celebrations at the Great Zimbabwe monument, left the mothers in awe of her generosity.
One mother, who gave birth to triplets, expressed her joy and gratitude for receiving baby clothes from the First Lady. Dr. Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of celebrating new life and the bond shared between these newborns and the President.
“I wanted to congratulate the mothers and bring warmth to them today,” Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa stated. “This day is special for our family, and these babies will always hold a unique place in our hearts.”
During her visit, the First Lady also provided personal hygiene tips to the first-time mothers and took the time to cuddle the newborns, bringing smiles to their mothers’ faces. She acknowledged the challenges of childbirth and highlighted the importance of supporting new mothers.
Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa collected the names and details of the September 15 babies and pledged to nurture her bond with them, ensuring they receive the support needed for a successful future.
The mothers expressed their appreciation for the First Lady’s thoughtful gesture. Mrs. Ketina Mapuwei, who welcomed her fourth child, remarked, “I never expected such a visit. It shows she truly cares for us.”
Dr. Noel Zulu, Medical Superintendent at Masvingo Provincial Hospital, praised the First Lady’s visit as a source of inspiration for both mothers and staff, reinforcing the importance of their work in health service delivery.
Overall, the First Lady’s visit not only celebrated new life but also underscored her commitment to supporting mothers and children in Zimbabwe.
