In a horrific incident, a 51-year-old Shamva man fatally assaulted one of his 22 wives to death after accusing her of having an affair with another man.
The polygamist, Joseph Chogugudza from Jena Village under Chief Musana in Shamva is accused of killing his 11th wife Emerina Gandira using an electric cable.
According to The Herald, Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the tragic incident which happened on April 12 this year at around midnight.
According to the police report, on the fateful day, a misunderstanding arose between Chogugudza and his wife Gandira after he accused her of infidelity.
Chogugudza allegedly took an electric cable and used to assault his wife until 4 am.
At around 5 am he took seven of his wives including Gandira and went with them to a shrine for morning prayers and upon their return she collapsed.
Chogugudza further assaulted her for pretending to be sick and she died.
He reportedly fled the scene and his whereabouts are currently unknown. The police in Bindura have since launched a manhunt for Chogugudza and appealing to anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or contact CID Bindura on 0662106515 or 7727.
In another related incident reported by iHarare, a 75-year-old Beitbridge man went berserk during a dispute with his live-in partner and killed her with a machete and an axe, before hanging himself.
