A 23-year-old female ZUPCO bus conductor was gang-raped and robbed of her belongings on her way to work in Bulawayo.The woman was waylaid by four perpetrators as she set off for work from her Emthunzini home in the city.
PBulawayo Police spokesperson Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident which happened on the 30th of March 2021 saying;
L“We are investigating a case of rape and robbery where a lady, who works at Zupco, was attacked around 2:30 am on Tuesday,” he said.
According to the police report, the victim met four unknown male adults armed with knives after she had traveled about a kilometer from her home.The four-armed suspects reportedly demanded cash from her and robbed her of her R200 before they force-marched her back to the house.
Upon arrival, the police further noted that the robbers went on to attack her male co-tenant before they robbed him of US$100.After robbing her co-tenant, the gang took turns to rape the victim before they disappeared into the darkness.
Speaking during an interview with The Daily News, Inspector Ncube revealed that the suspects are still on the run. He said it was the duty of citizens to help the law enforcers in the fight against crime by providing information that may lead to the suspects being nabbed.
He urged the members of the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the gang’s arrest.
