Social media has been awash with the news that the Zimbabwe government had banned Winky D’s song Ijipita off all radio stations in the country.
This has been rumored to have been necessitated by the suspicions that the song talks about the state of the economy and governance in the country, rendering the song politically charged.
Others however dismissed the supposed assumptions that the song was political as they felt the song was talking about someone who’s leaving their community or country for the diaspora to seek greener pastures.
Winky’s Album Njema is being launch this evening in Harare and fans home and abroad have been waiting eagerly, some praising him as the poet of our time, others declaring themselves die hard fans while ladies couldn’t help themselves but to see the handsomeness of Winky D.
The government of Zimbabwe dismissed the claims as Of banning the album launch as seeking to discredit the government.
In an interview with a local media platform, Minister Kazembe Was quoted as saying that “This is the problem with social media and people who are up to discrediting Government. Who has banned the show? Where is the evidence that the show has been banned and by who?”
A previously advertised interview with Powerfm yesterday where Winky D was Expected to have featured seemed not to have taken place as there was no trace of the interview on the social media platforms of Powerfm.
One wonders if this would confirm the rumors that the song has indeed been banned. Local radio today stations largely played his past tracks, it remains to be seen if the Ijipita song will be played across all radio stations after the launch, to prove the government indeed has not issued a ban in the song.
On his Facebook page a few hours ago, Winky D had this to say; “
Musaone ndinyerere ndikurova mapress ups kuitira manheru, (My silence is due to the fact that I’m preparing), its going to be flames. Lets do it tonight.
