As he took to the stage to deliver his condolence message to the people of Zimbabwe during the on going memorial event to mourn the African Revolutionary Icon , the late Former President Robert Mugabe, Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the most of his speech under the booing of Zimbabweans.
The first attempt to talk was futile as the crowds made noises over his voice because of the on going #xenophobia in South Africa that has killed a number of Africans. He had to have the MC try to stabilize the citizens, however the noises continued and he had to speak over the boos.
South African Youths who have attacked Zimbabweans, Nigerians, Zambians, Malawians, and Mozambicans through torture, burning and bitings claim that the fellow Africans who migrate from their countries into South Africa are taking their jobs.
The government of President Cyril Ramaphosa has both the burden and responsibility of educating South African youths on who actually owns the greater wealth in a South African which is largely the minority white people.
It also has the responsibility to teach its citizens in the spirit of Ubuntu and how South Africa was assisted by fellow African countries during its own struggle.
President Ramaphosa who seemed shocked and troubled by the Zimbabwean people’s response apologized to the people of Zimbabwe and Africa over xenophobia, to which there were cheers in the crowds, and he promised to deal with the situation.
In his speech, he acknowledged the iconic work and help that former President Mugabe and fellow Africans did for South African liberation.
Zimbabwean from various walks of life responded with respect for fellow citizens after the displeasure they showed Ramaphosa over xenophobia.
An attendee and human rights activist Ms Varaidzo Mayenzanise expressed her pleasure over the stance citizens took saying that: “I’m proud of Zimbabweans, they spoke, I thought they were just going to accept Ramaphosa’s speech without speaking out against xenophobia, their voices were heard, and it forced him to humble himself and apologize”
