HARARE — Organisers of the Bokola Film Festival have announced its return to Harare on 30 May 2026, which is set to be held at Studio Moto in Belgravia from 12pm to 7pm.
The event which brings together filmmakers, artists and audiences for a day of independent cinema and cultural programming centred on themes of uncertainty, resilience and creative expression will run under the theme “Hold The Line: Between Collapse and Becoming.”
The organisers said the event is accessible to young audiences and emerging creatives and entry fee is just a US$1.
This year’s edition reflects the realities faced by people navigating economic instability, social pressure and rapid change across Africa and beyond.
Festival organisers described Bokola as more than a film event, saying it serves as a platform for storytelling, cultural dialogue and artistic experimentation.
Festival Director Ska Sebata said the event was designed to create space for reflection rather than provide fixed answers.
“The festival is not positioned as an answer, but as a space to sit with questions. What does it mean to hold on when things are breaking? What does it mean to create when the future feels unstable? And what kinds of stories are needed to carry us through this moment?,” he said.
The programme will include film screenings, music video showcases, exhibitions and live DJ performances. Organisers also confirmed an afterparty titled “Bokola On Fire,” hosted in partnership with Events On Fire, as well as a children’s zone aimed at making the festival accessible to families.
The festival will also continue its support for emerging filmmakers through the Bokola Future of Film Award, supported by Accountability Lab Zimbabwe. The award recognises young filmmakers working outside traditional industry systems and includes a cash prize to support future projects.
Bokola Film Festival is organised by Magamba Network, a Zimbabwean creative and digital media organisation known for supporting youth culture, storytelling and independent artistic platforms.
