Shopkeeper Sentenced to 15 Years for Aggravated Indecent Assault.

In a significant legal outcome, Paurosi Foya, a shopkeeper from Mhangura, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of aggravated indecent assault against a 13-year-old boy. The conviction was made by a regional magistrate in Chinhoyi following a thorough trial, which adhered to the standard sentencing guidelines for such serious offenses involving minors.

The court heard that the assault took place in August when Foya threatened the boy with an Okapi knife during a visit to his shop around 7 PM. The boy was coerced into a sexual encounter against his will. Disturbingly, after a second assault, Foya attempted to silence the victim by giving him US$1 and luring him with sweets and biscuits on multiple occasions.

The case came to light when the boy’s mother learned of the assaults through community conversations. On October 8, she confronted Foya, who allegedly confessed to the crimes. The following day, both the mother and the boy reported the incidents to the police, leading to Foya’s arrest.

This case highlights the critical need for robust laws to protect minors from exploitation and abuse. Strengthening legal protections ensures that offenders are held accountable and helps create a safer environment for children. Community awareness and vigilance are essential in preventing such crimes and supporting victims in coming forward.
