A 50-year-old man named Innocent Kakarahwa, from New Magwegwe in Bulawayo, has been taken into custody for unlawfully detaining and sexually assaulting two underage girls.
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the acting spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo Province, reported that the victims, aged 15 and 14, are residents of Magwegwe North. She provided the following details:
In November 2024, the two girls were on their way to Lobengula West when they met Kakarahwa, who offered them a ride along Intemba Road. They accepted his offer. During the drive, Kakarahwa showed interest in the girls and claimed he could help them find jobs, as they had falsely stated they were looking for work.
On December 2, 2024, around 11:30 AM, Kakarahwa contacted the girls and asked to meet. He promised to pick them up at Konron Shopping Centre in Lobengula West at 2:00 PM, but he delayed until 8:00 PM. He then took them to Donnington West, where he provided food and shelter for the night before leaving.
On the evening of December 3, 2024, around 8:00 PM, Kakarahwa returned and took one of the girls to his car, where he adjusted the seat and requested to have sexual intercourse with her. He engaged in the act once, using protection. Afterward, she went back to the room with the other girl while Kakarahwa departed.
On December 5, 2024, around 8:00 AM, Kakarahwa returned again. The girls decided to call their parents to ask for forgiveness. He instructed them not to disclose what had happened. He then drove them to town and gave them US$2 for transport home.
After sharing their experiences with their parents, a police report was filed, leading to Kakarahwa’s arrest. Assistant Inspector Msebele emphasized the importance of teaching children to be cautious of strangers and warned potential offenders that they would face serious legal repercussions.
