Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, has reaffirmed the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries regarding their electoral processes.
His remarks came in response to a recent article published by The Mirror, a local newspaper in Masvingo, which suggested that ZANU PF had facilitated Zimbabweans’ participation in Mozambique’s disputed elections on October 9. Mangwana emphasized that such claims are unfounded and misrepresent the party’s activities.
In a feature published in the state-controlled newspaper The Herald, Mangwana clarified that while ZANU PF occasionally sends senior officials to the region for meetings, this participation should not be interpreted as interference in the political affairs of other nations. He stated, “We do not endorse election interference or rigging.”
Mangwana highlighted Zimbabwe’s active role in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) electoral observer missions, underscoring the country’s dedication to promoting fair electoral practices across the region.
He reiterated that the Zimbabwean Government is committed to collaborating with any democratically elected leader, emphasizing, “We don’t rig elections in our country or any other country for that matter.” This stance reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to good governance and regional stability, serving as a positive example for its neighbors as they navigate their own electoral challenges.
