In a heartfelt address to thousands of learners and community members in Shurugwi North, Health Ambassador Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa highlighted the significance of the school feeding programme as a vital commitment to children’s well-being in Zimbabwe. This initiative reflects the nation’s collective vision for a healthier future.

During the event, Dr. Auxillia  Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of healthy eating and moral values, while also raising awareness about the Mpox disease, urging the community to remain vigilant. She invited the provincial medical director to provide insights on the disease, as two positive cases have already been recorded in the country.

As part of her commitment, Dr. Auxillia  Mnangagwa donated 30 tonnes of maize meal to local schools, ensuring that children receive the nutrition they need to thrive academically. She stated that well-fed children are more alert and better equipped to learn, underscoring the impact of proper nutrition on cognitive development.

The event showcased a variety of traditional dishes, including rice with peanut butter, sadza, beef stew, and dried vegetables, prepared and served by the First Lady and local women. Dr. Mnangagwa interacted with the children, teaching them about table manners and the importance of consuming food while it is hot.

Highlighting the cultural significance of traditional foods, Dr. Mnangagwa remarked, “These foods are more than mere sustenance; they celebrate our identity and provide essential nutrients for growth.” She encouraged the children to appreciate their heritage and the role of nutrition in building strong bodies and minds.

In her address, the First Lady acknowledged the critical role educators play in shaping the future of Zimbabwe. She urged parents to lead by example and keep a watchful eye on their children to combat rising issues like drug abuse.

Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa inspired the young learners to take their studies seriously, reminding them that hard work and perseverance are key to overcoming challenges. “Aim for the stars! Your potential knows no bounds,” she declared.

The event had an interactive session where children expressed their thoughts on various topics, including the negative impacts of stealing and substance abuse. Dr. Mnangagwa encouraged open dialogue, emphasizing the importance of learning from each other.

As the First Lady wrapped up her speech, she reinforced the message of unity and commitment, “Together, we can cultivate a generation that values nutrition, embraces its cultural roots, and strives for excellence. Let us invest in the future of Zimbabwe by nourishing our bodies and minds.”

This school feeding programme stands as a beacon of hope for families in need, ensuring that no child is held back by hunger. Through this initiative, Zimbabwe is taking significant steps toward a healthier, brighter future for its children.
