In a shocking turn of events, a 38-year-old man from Chipinge has been taken into custody in connection with the tragic deaths of two individuals, including an elderly woman and a young child.
Trust Sithole, a resident of Manyara Village under Chief Mutema, appeared before the Chipinge magistrates’ court facing two counts of murder. He has been remanded in custody until August 30, with the option to apply for bail at the High Court.
Authorities are taking the situation seriously, and Sithole will be evaluated under the Mental Health Act. This examination aims to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the case.
On August 18, it is alleged that Sithole struck Sofia Sithole, a 70-year-old woman, on the head with an unknown object as she returned home from an all-night prayer session. Tragically, she died at the scene. Following the incident, her body was reportedly placed on a stack of thatch grass and set ablaze, leading to severe damage.
In a separate but equally distressing incident, Sithole is also accused of attacking a four-year-old child, Rachel Sithole, who died instantly. Her body was found in one of the huts.
The community is reeling from these events, and local authorities are committed to seeking justice and supporting the affected families during this difficult time.
