In a series of separate incidents, Zimbabwean police have arrested seven individuals for drug dealing, seizing over 400 kilograms of marijuana in the process. The arrests, which took place in Magunje and Gokwe, are part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking.
In Magunje, police, acting on a tip, apprehended Stewart Nyamufarira (29), Fungai Chinoripi (37), Godfrey Nyamufarira (52), Pearcious Nyamufarira (19), and Tasiyana Zingore (48) at Nyamufarira Village. They were found in possession of a combined total of 333.5 kilograms of marijuana, which they claimed to have grown in their gardens along the Sanyati River.
Meanwhile, in Gokwe, Rosemary Siangumbule (47) and Quean Siajame (36) were arrested at Siachengwa Village for possessing four 20-liter buckets and a half plastic bag of prepared marijuana.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests and emphasized the ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking. He urged the public to continue reporting any information about drug dealers to the authorities. The government, he said, is dedicated to eliminating drug abuse through initiatives such as the establishment of an inter-ministerial taskforce and the allocation of funds for drug mitigation efforts.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to address the drug menace and ensure the achievement of Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 development goals.
