Two Zimbabwean brothers, aged 19 and 30, have been apprehended by authorities in Botswana for the alleged illegal possession of drugs. According to reports from Botswana, the brothers were found in possession of approximately 35 kilograms of dagga (marijuana), 25 bottles of Broncleer cough syrup, and an unaccounted for amount of 21,000 Botswana Pula (around $1,900 USD).
Maun Station Commander Dennis Zilawe confirmed that the seized dagga has been sent to a forensic laboratory for testing. “Some of the suspected dagga was found in their possession, some from their house, and some from their vehicle. We have sent it to the lab for analysis,” Zilawe stated.
The police are still investigating the source of the cough syrup, as it is a prescription drug. Zilawe explained, “Cough syrup contains a high amount of alcohol, and people tend to use it to drug themselves. The medicine is taken as a prescription, so we are still investigating where they got it in such large quantities.”
The arrest of the two Zimbabwean brothers highlights the ongoing efforts of Botswana authorities to combat the illegal drug trade. The investigation is still ongoing, and the suspects will face the legal consequences of their alleged actions.
