A 29-year-old man from Marondera, Zimbabwe, named Ezekiel MacDonald Chibvongodze, has been accused of murdering his wife, Mitchel Evelyn Katakwe, and their 6-year-old son, Kimley Tawananyasha, by repeatedly stabbing them while they were asleep.
Chibvongodze appeared before a Marondera magistrate yesterday, where he was denied bail on the murder charges. The court heard that Chibvongodze had allegedly attempted to take his own life after the incident on Sunday, but his suicide attempt was unsuccessful.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Chibvongodze was facing murder charges. He was not required to enter a plea, and the case was remanded in custody until August 6.
The allegations suggest that Chibvongodze was driven by suspicions that his wife was engaged in an extramarital affair. Reportedly, he purchased an Okapi knife in Marondera town before returning home, where he waited for his wife and son to fall asleep, and then proceeded to stab them multiple times all over their bodies.
After the attack, Chibvongodze is said to have fled the scene, leaving his wife and son for dead. However, he later handed himself over to the police following a failed suicide attempt.
