As the nation commemorates Heroes Day, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the country’s youth to emulate the values and patriotism displayed by Zimbabwe’s national heroes and heroines.
In a message posted on X, the President emphasized that it is the duty of every Zimbabwean to ensure the tradition of respect and remembrance for the brave individuals who sacrificed for the nation’s independence is passed on to future generations.
“As we mark Heroes Day, we stand united in honouring the brave men and women whose sacrifices paved the way for our independence. Their legacy is the foundation of our nation, and it is our responsibility to ensure that this tradition of respect and remembrance is passed down to future generations,” President Mnangagwa stated.
The President encouraged the youth to put Zimbabwe first and carry forward the values of unity and deep love for the country that were embodied by the nation’s heroes and heroines. He also urged young Zimbabweans to warmly welcome the delegations arriving for the 44th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for this Saturday.
“Together, we remember the past, celebrate the present and build a future rooted in unity and patriotism,” President Mnangagwa said.
The main Heroes Day celebrations will be held at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, with the President leading the nation in commemorating the occasion. The following day, the country will also celebrate Defence Forces Day, with the President presiding over the main event in the capital.
The government has made all the necessary logistical arrangements, including transport and security, for the upcoming events. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Ambassador Raphael Faranisi, confirmed that buses have been mobilized to carry the families of heroes and the general public to the Heroes Day celebrations.
