A 45-year-old principal from a Harare college has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of raping a 16-year-old student. The ruling was handed down in the Harare Magistrates’ Court, reflecting the seriousness of the crime.
The incident occurred on june 13, 2025, after both the principal and the student attended a sports event. Upon returning to the school, the principal parked his vehicle outside the reception area and moved to the back seat with the student, where he attempted to undress her. When she resisted and pinched him on the neck, he forcibly raped her.
The victim’s screams attracted the attention of a nearby security guard, who approached the car just as the principal quickly dressed and left with him. Although the victim could not hear their conversation, the principal later returned to drive her home.
The situation escalated when the principal contacted the victim later on. In a distressing turn of events, she mistakenly included her brother on the call, which led to her revealing the traumatic incident. Following counseling, she confided in her pastor, prompting further action.
During the court proceedings, the principal was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison, with three years suspended, resulting in an effective nine-year term. This case underscores the importance of addressing sexual violence and supporting victims in seeking justice.
