You Must Know Them: Sindiso Nyamanza

You Must Know Them

Nyari Mashayamombe – Editor in Chief

In this interview Identities Media (IM) caught up with the amazingly talented Sindiso Nyamanza “Sinj” (SN)  to catch up and learn about his life and musical journey. We are excited to share this with you. Enjoy!

IM: Tell us about yourself?

SN: My name is Sindiso Nyamanza “Sinj”, a 36-year-old recording artist based in the City of Kings, Bulawayo.

I developed a love for music at a very early age. I recall being the lead singer of our school “Imbube” group at St Bernards Primary school back in 1996. This childhood experience helped to shape my music journey. In my early 20s, I started writing my own songs, singing them at my local church during service.

My career started in 2014 when I recorded my first single, ‘Qhawe’. Both audio and visuals quickly found their way into local radio stations and TV which included TBN Africa!

I recently recorded audio and visuals for my Single ‘Ngizoqina’ which is basically my pain in song. I would like to be remembered as one that was vulnerable enough to tell their own story/stories to help those going through the same.

IM: What drives the work that you do?

SN: I am driven by a lot of things, my love for God or rather his love for me. Most of my songs are songs of praise, adoration and gratitude to God or all He has done.

Love for my family. That, “Daddy please buy us sweets, ice cream and toys and a big car that we can drive by ourselves”. That, “Baby, Magetsi is finished, please bring us bread, dstv and wifi has expired” these make me wake up, put on my imaginary super hero cape and go and ‘Hustle’ for my own.

I am Passionate about writing songs with meaning, songs that evoke certain emotions, songs that can stand the test of time! I believe my gift (together with other musicians and song writers alike) is to be able to interpret our and other people’s emotions, package them in a song so people can use those to fully express themselves etc.

IM: What do you see in the near future?

SN: At some point we all desire to be noticed, our message heard and acknowledged.

In the near future, my Message (Songs) will be heard and acknowledged as meaningful, desirable and necessary for one’s soul.

I hope to inspire creatives in my community to chase after their dreams. As one that has received immense support both emotional and otherwise, as I tell my success story, I hope my community and other communities will realise how a goal can be achieved when people come together and support their own, regardless of whose name will be on the final product.

IM: What are your parting words or advice?

SN: Psalm 119:49-50

“Remember the word to your Servant, upon which you have caused me to hope, this is the comfort in my affliction, for your word has given me life”.

The Psalmist is saying, I’m holding on to what you said to me in the beginning, the promise(s) you made, what you said I’ll become…Stick to what you were told in the beginning, they might be a temptation to take a detour and flow with the norm, resist it, trust that still small voice you heard in the beginning, trust the process.

In due season, the vision will come to fruition.
