In his congratulatory message, former Secretary General of the MDC and a pillar of the party Douglas Mwonzora congratulates the 24 year old Vincent in a tweeter message:
“Congratulations Vincent Tsvangirai for winning Glen View South indisputably. Thank you so much Glenview. With such unique focus and determination it was a question of time. For young Vincent now the sky is the limit. Poetic justice!” Said Mwonzora.
The young Tsvangirai expressed his reverence of the assignment which his father and sister left referring the task as too big for his shows. In an interview before the elections in a News Day I i i terview, young Tsvangirai said:
“Honestly, it’s a mixed bag of emotions for me. Firstly, I’m happy with the reception I’m getting from the party and the people. Secondly, I’m scared that my late father and sister’s shoes may be too big to fill and that the expectations put on me are just heavy. Will I be able to meet them? Thirdly, I am honoured to be given the chance to represent the people who were very dear to my late father (Morgan), mother (Susan) and sister (Vimbai)”.
Families running in their family political parties seem now to be a norm with the current Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nephew Tongai Mnangagwa as the MP for Harare South. However this is also a regional and International trend. The daughters of Mandela in South Africa and the Clintons in America are just but an example of those who have kept the political tradition in the family.
